Led by architect and woodworker Eileen Xu, founder of OODSHOP, this workshop introduces woodworking rooted in material honesty, precision, and meaning. Through a mix of video demonstrations and hands-on making, participants will follow the complete process of creating a thoughtfully designed sculptural object in solid wood, from concept and digital modeling to fabrication, assembly, and finishing.
The workshop explores responsible material use, essential safety considerations, and foundational design mindsets—attention to detail, utilization of software and technology, and iterative problem-solving. This workshop is designed for students interested in architecture, art, and craft who want to understand how thoughtful design, engineering logic, and technical mastery come together to create work that is both enduring and personal.
Currently open to Seattle University students only.

The Creative Exchange welcomes a new guest artist each month to share their creative practice, career path, and the realities of making a living in the PNW. Participants will engage in hands-on learning, experiment with tools and techniques, and create a tangible piece to take home. All while discovering new interdisciplinary career pathways across arts, technology, and business. Learn more about at The Creative Exchange.
Help Us Bring This to All of Seattle
The Creative Exchange is currently a pilot program hosted at Seattle University, but we're building toward something bigger. The more interest we hear from the public, the faster we can open The Creative Exchange beyond campus. Tell us you're interested to help shape what comes next.
