The Mixtape: A Career Lab for Culture Creators

  • Lee Center for the Arts 905 12th Avenue East Seattle, WA, 98102 United States (map)

Join us at SEATTLE CREATES for our next creative workshop we've decided to don The Mix Tape Session. What's behind the name? How does an obsolete concept like a mix tape represent what we're building in today's creative economy: a fusion of arts, tech, and creativity? Well, we're glad you asked.

A mix tape is a highly curated compilation of all the things one loves (on the radio, at least) requiring a keen attention to detail, timing, synchronicity, organization, and themes. It's a vessel that captures a moment in time with associated meanings, symbolism, storytelling, and collective consciousness.

We're using the mix tape as a metaphoric vessel to feature a few of our favorite themes and greatest career hits, if you will, highlighting the dynamic creatives and agencies actively working in Seattle's local film, fashion, music, and tech industries.

What we've learned--and are hoping to embark upon our guests--is that all of these sectors intersect and leverage interdisciplinary skillsets. Designers, creative directors, artists, musicians, producers, and tech specialists are intertwined in a symbiotic relationship across these fields, and often, they wear many of the same hats.

It's our mission to demonstrate how they all roll into one master playlist--hitting all the right notes as we deep dive into career industry pathways + access, sustainable wages, knowing your value as a creative worker, quality over quantity, brand + marketing, and then some.

Sounds good, right? Come kick it with us and find your people in the creative fields you seek or want to slide into. We'll supply the culture and content. You bring the vibes.
